Texas singer-songwriter Solya recently wrapped up her Queen of Texas headlining tour across Europe and North America, supporting her debut album of the same name released in March of this year. Throughout the run, she brought her ethereal indie pop stylings to audiences all over. Before concluding the tour with an appearance at weekend one of Austin City Limits festival, Solya stopped by Oklahoma City’s 89th Street for a memorable sold-out show in an intimate venue. If my intuition is correct, this may be one of the last times she plays rooms this tiny, as her soothing yet soaring vocals have her poised for something big. The fans also got dressed up in many fun outfits, some more goth-inspired while others opted to recreate the Queen of Texas cover look, silver tiaras and all, making for a fun atmosphere – albeit one that skewed a bit younger than I was expecting.

Opening the show were fellow Texans Tele Novella, an indie-rock duo known for their folksy, medieval, and sometimes even witchy vibes – which were absolutely perfect for the cool October night. Vocalist Natalie Ribbons sounded hauntingly beautiful as songs like “Ring of Stones,” “Broomhorse” and “Funeral” echoed through the tiny room, all eyes and ears captivated. I also can firmly attest that simply streaming their music is not enough; it must be experienced live for maximum fall vibes ahead.

Around 9 p.m., the already packed room scrunched in even closer as the young songstress known as Solya took the stage and captured the room’s full attention as she began with “Tell Me It’s Over,” the lead single from Queen of Texas – attention that would not wane through the set. Though Queen of Texas was, understandably and deservedly, the focus of the night, she made sure to also include some earlier singles such as “Roadkill” and “Heaven” for those who’d been around longer.

At only 20 years old, Solya performs with the soul and heart of a music scene veteran, with a sweet yet seasoned voice that is beautiful, and holds something special.

Though the Queen of Texas tour has concluded, there is sure to be more in store for Solya. For now, feel free to check out Queen of Texas wherever you get your music, and keep your eyes peeled on her social media channels for what’s next.
