The Oklahoma emo scene collectively shed a few tears on May 12, 2026, when Tulsa-based band Cliffdiver announced they would be going on an indefinite hiatus after a legendary 8-year run that included multiple cross-country tours with bands such as Bowling for Soup and Hot Mulligan as well as appearances at legendary punk festivals like Warped Tour and Riot Fest. Not to hang things up without one last hurrah, though, the band put together a pair of shows at Oklahoma City’s 89th Street Collective and Tulsa’s Vanguard to allow their fans and the OK scene one last chance to come together and celebrate the band and their impact on the local scene. Having followed Cliffy for at least 4 of those 8 years, I knew I had to be there for them in OKC one last time, and the evening that ensued felt like one giant community hug.

Kicking off the night was S.Reidy, an “emotional rapper” from Norman, OK who is not afraid to be honest and vulnerable with his lyrics, and who is extremely dedicated to helping build up the local scene. Armed with a microphone, a laptop, a rainbow skull and a dream, he got the whole room (or at least the area closest to the stage) bouncing to the beats. 

Next up was Limp Wizurdz, who brought a sense of humor alongside their punchy riffs. Through their set, the OKC-based rock band did not shy away from absurdity in their song titles, referencing things like literal turds (“Floaters”), the deceased previous tenant of the lead singer’s rental abode (“John Rosner”), and subsequent landlord disputes with the owners of said abode (“Bad Credit”). Alongside these silly song titles, though, is a band with a heart who leaves it all on stage and makes it impossible not to headbang along by the end.

The last support act to hit the stage was Red Sun, an alternative/emo/rock band who is currently poised to follow in the “Red Dirt Emo” footsteps previously tread by Cliffdiver and fellow OKC rockers Ben Quad to be one of the next bands to break out of the scene. Performing selections from their recently-released full-length debut At Their Very Best such as “Let It Rip!,””Eat What U Earn,” and “Slayce,” as well as an homage to Oklahoma football through “Boomer” and “Sooner,” the band put on an absolutely phenomenal set and had the whole room rocking along with them.

Finally, just after 10 p.m., Cliffdiver took the stage, and vocalist Joey Duffy almost immediately began fighting off tears at the bittersweetness of the evening, a night signifying the closure of a major chapter in the band’s lives while simultaneously feeling loved by a scene that they helped nurture. Their set kicked off with the fantastically relatable “thirty, flirty and thriving!!”, followed by a throwback in “Are You Still Seeing Graig, The Orthodontist?” which was creatively mashed up with the millennial classic “All Star” by Smash Mouth. Other highlights included “Cameron Diaz”, “Teaching a Narwhal Empathy,” “Dayz Gone,” and “Goin’ For the Garbage Plate.” The career-spanning setlist served as a celebratory farewell for one of the most unique and loving bands in the Oklahoma scene, cementing their place in the legacy of the Oklahoma emo scene for years to come. For one last hurrah, they closed the evening with their hit “Gas City,” a heartfelt anthem reminding everyone to show love to your friends and “gas them up”. 

The band’s final show is taking place on Saturday, July 18 at The Vanguard in Tulsa, OK, with support from Leisure Hour and Morris Village, and I encourage all who are able to make it to show up and show this amazing band so much love on their last farewell.
