Anniversary tours have seen a massive wave of popularity as of late, but American Football’s LP1 Anniversary Tour was truly something special to watch. Playing their first album in full, along with selections from their 2016 and 2019 releases, their two-night, sold-out stay at the iconic Granada Theater was an experience like any other. Bringing along the Texas-based band Teethe to open both shows, the night was long-awaited by many dedicated fans since their previous performance dating back to 2019.

Starting off the night under some red moody lights, Teethe opened the show with their newest release, “Holy Water”. Although a completely different vibe than American Football, the group easily captured the crowd’s attention with their smooth riffs.

To say the crowd went wild when American Football stepped on the stage would be an understatement. The small pit became jam-packed as the fans tried to get in as close as possible during their first song of the set, “Five Silent Miles”. Illuminated by the projections of the original home that graced the cover of their first LP, the first few songs went by quickly. Everyone was so expressive while they played, especially frontman Mike Kinsella and drummer Steve Lamos. It was clear to see just how special these songs felt to everyone in the band, smiles and looks of adoration for the crowd never leaving their faces.

After a short intermission during the middle of the set, the second half of show continued on with the first song off their second LP “Where Are We Now?” Bringing out a female vocalist to sing along to the Hayley Williams collaboration “Uncomfortably Numb” and “Every Wave To Ever Rise”, the show was coming close to its end. However, of course you couldn’t end an American Football show without playing their biggest hit “Never Meant”.

Although the tour has come to an end, you can relive the magic with the band’s concert film on YouTube. If physical media is your vice instead, check out their limited run of their live album on vinyl on their official merch website.
