Gothic hard-rockers Dead Posey recently embarked on The Damned and The Dead tour, bringing their vampy tunes to a whopping 18 cities across the United States from June 11-29, with only one day off in between. Along for the grueling ride were fellow hard-rockers Ovtlier and Another Day Dawns making for a stacked lineup of amazing up-and-coming bands that should be ones to watch in the coming months. The Encore Nights had the fortune of catching the tour closer in Oklahoma City at a little hole-in-the-wall club known as 89th Street OKC, and let it be known that plenty of debauchery ensued, making for a fun and memorable evening.
Kicking off the night was OKC’s own Taranis, who have been absolutely KILLING it in the local scene with their signature brand of “girlypop core”, blending brutal screams with fun, feminine, aesthetics and all things pink, led by the charismatic Caroline Deen. I had the fortune of watching them on this same stage about a year ago as support for Eyes Set to Kill, and can proudly say that their live show has only further improved since. Their most recent EP, With Love, is available on all streaming services, and my fellow Okla-homies can catch them in Tulsa on August 1 or in Oklahoma City on August 8.

Next up were hard rockers Another Day Dawns, who kept the crowd moving with their groovy riffs and gritty, yet soulful, vocals as they played tracks such as “Am I” and “Hesitate”. Since it was the last day of tour, they couldn’t leave the stage without a couple of their tour mates crashing the stage with bubble machines during the final song, showing only a glimpse of the end-of-tour shenanigans that would ensue that evening.

The third act on the very-stacked lineup was Ovtlier, another hard rock band that I could very easily see having a sharp rise in popularity very soon following the recent success of their single “Warriors”, a collaboration with none other than Motionless in White frontman Chris Motionless. Their edgy aesthetics, crunchy riffs, and melodically aggressive vocals really shined as they performed songs such as “Dead Man Running”, “Buried Me Alive”, and the aforementioned “Warriors”, with VRSTY frontman Joey Tyler even making an appearance near the end of the set. The end-of-tour debauchery also continued, with the band’s frontman Joey Arena getting tattooed on stage during their set and the bubble machines making their second appearance of the night.

Finally, it was time for the gothic rock duo known as Dead Posey to take the stage, and they immediately commanded the attention of everyone in the room as lead vocalist Danyell Souza crawled onto the stage in an all-black ensemble, complete with platform boots and vinyl gloves as the opening notes of “sorry I’m not dead” rang through the venue. The set felt like a mini goth rave, complete with horror movie clips running on a projection screen on stage and fog machines galore, while Danyell made an extra effort to make eye contact and sing directly to everyone in the first couple of rows, even coming into the crowd at one point. On top of the cool aesthetics, the band sounded absolutely phenomenal as they played through selections from their debut full-length album Are You In A Cult? such as their cover of Orgy’s “Blue Monday”, “Welcome to the Nightmare”, and the rhythmic anthem “She Went Bad,” during which all the women (and women-adjacent people like my nonbinary self) in the crowd were invited to join the band on stage. It was truly one of the most fun shows I’ve been to recently, and I highly recommend catching them live if they come to a city near you!
Though the Damned and the Dead tour may have come to an end, Dead Posey is just getting started, so be sure to follow them on your preferred social media platforms to stay in the loop on their future plans, and check out Are You In A Cult? wherever you consume your favorite music.
