Shortly after accepting her most recent Grammy for ‘Best Pop vocals,’ Taylor Swift announced on stage her newest album: The Tortured Poets Departement. Backstage, she captioned her Instagram post of the cover ‘all is fair in love and poetry’ with the release date of April 19th.
The cover itself depicts Swift in black lingerie, among large pillows on a bed. The only other context given about content for this album is the supplemental image of grayscale documents laying on a manila envelope folder. This seems to be a letter, signed off by “The Chairman of The Tortured Poets Department.” It states that they are “entering into evidence” their “coat of arms.” Just another fun tease to keep Swifties excited.
Hype for a new release of some sort started back in October when Taylor and her co writer put up 11 fingers in a post. Many speculated it would be Taylor’s version of Reputation, a rerecording of her previous release that she had lost in a masters dispute with Scooter Braun. Taylor’s Grammys outfit seemed to had supported that suggestion, as she dawned black and white on the red carpet. However, looking deeper at her accessories, her clock choker relates better to the “tick, tick, tick,” seen in the The Tortured Poets Department announcement post.
Pre-orders are already available on her site, including collectors editions revealing a song title as “The Manuscript.” These are only available until February 7th, and include a patch, bookmark, and photo cards with lyrics. Other goodies available include a photo book and cassettes.
