Shelby is a new country singer with a heart of gold and an authentic songwriting style. In this interview she discusses how heartbreak inspired her newest single, how family has supported her, and the tribulations of being a new artist. 

Where does your musical inspiration come from?

My inspiration comes from things around me in life. I write from the heart and I think my music reflects that. I also write all my own music, so everything you hear is from my heart. 

Your new single that just came out, what is that about? 

I went through a breakup and so that is a song about letting go and getting over someone. 

What’s the hardest part about being a new musician? 

That’s a good question. There’s a lot that’s difficult about it. Keeping up with social media is difficult and keeps me busy. Also, the industry really wants singer songwriters right now and there’s a lot of work involved to write your own songs. 

Can you talk about your journey with music thus far? 

I always knew I wanted to be a singer and my family has been very supportive of it. My parents are both into music so I grew up with it. Me and my brother were at a practice with my parents. I picked up a guitar and started playing with it. A couple years later I played my first talent show and then at 16 had my first concert. I enjoy both songwriting and performing. 

What is your go-to karaoke song? 

I actually don’t sing karaoke. I sing in my own key and a lot of karaoke songs aren’t in the key I sing in. I guess I’ll sing my own songs when I see them on the karaoke machine. 

Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know? 

Just to listen to my newest single, Saying Goodbye, and to keep an eye out for my E.P. later this year.
