On the warm evening of February 27th, the venue Puzzles Deep Ellum welcomed Secondhand Serenade for their 20th year anniversary tour of “Awake”.

With a line that wrapped around the building fans eagerly waited for the doors to open at 7:30pm

With the support of Charity Eden and Don’t Panic, Secondhand Serenade kicked off their second night in Texas.

Charity Eden, a Texas based singer-songwriter was the first up on stage. With her mesmerizing and passionate vocals, guitar on hand Charity opened her set with “silent conversations” followed by “broken record” and “anxious attachment” from her debut album “silent conversations”. Charity’s energy helped set the tone for the rest of the night.

Straight from Pennsylvania Pop Punk, Rock & Roll band Don’t Panic, took over the stage as the second support act for the tour. Ted, the lead singer, did an acoustic set since the other band members were not able to join the tour; however, Ted promised the crowd to be back with every member of the band.

The setlist for the night included songs such as “Long Way”, “Numb”, “Honest” a song that will be included in their new album “For Your Consideration” with a release date of April 17th, 2026 and “Fall of 99” which is a song about when he started his first punk band.

The fans started to cheer for Secondhand Serenade as they made their way to the stage. To kick off the night Secondhand Serenade started to sing  “Half Alive” which made the fans cheer and sing along. From the start to the end fans did not stop singing along to the anthems of “Awake”, “The Last Song Ever”, and “vulnerable” which happens to be John’s favorite song from the album creating an unforgettable experience which brought so much happiness and nostalgia because it “was never a phase Mom”. One of the greatest things of the night was that not only was it a sold out show yet it still felt very intimate,  there were fans of all ages proving that music can bring everyone together.

As the evening started to come to an end, John brought his son Fender up on stage, he even had a microphone ready for him. Fender took this opportunity to sing his version of “Baby Shark” and the crowd sang along and went wild, making you feel that Fender was the main act of the night.

Secondhand Serenade ended the night by singing fan favorite “Fall For You”. After finishing the song, John thanked everyone for sharing the night with them and invited the fans to stop by the merch table and say “hi” to him.
