Madison Beer has returned with one of her most emotional and vulnerable albums yet, Locket. In an interview with Dork, Madison explained, “I was going through an intense relationship that I pulled a lot of inspo from, and I feel thankful for it, because it really helped me write this album. Then also just a lot of personal stuff.” With the help of her amazing producer, Leroy Clampitt, they created Madison’s story into a beautiful and inspiring piece of work.

The opening track, “locket theme,” gives us a glimpse of the journey we are about to take, with lyrics such as “My protection’s so divine and now I see (I see) / Pain on a necklace, set it down, I’m weightless.” By setting the locket down, she has moved on and found inner peace. Transitioning into “yes baby,” a hyper-pop dance track, this fun song gives the listener a break before getting into those hard-hitting songs. In every Madison album, you can find hints of her paying homage to her favorite shows, like in “healthy habit,” where she sampled Marceline from Adventure Time. This album introduces new instruments and exquisite vocals from Madison. In “Bad Enough,” she belts out about her trapped relationship, with the help of enchanting violins and powerful synths. Whereas in “Complexity,” featuring a sample of “Severance,” she reflects on wanting love from someone, but they don’t care about themselves.

Locket is a rollercoaster of emotions, and Madison does an exceptional job of letting the listener step into her shoes. She uses music as her escape and has helped countless fans overcome their struggles. As someone who has been a fan of hers for years, it’s been a wonderful and uplifting experience.
