Aidan Bissett, the 23-year-old Tampa-raised singer-songwriter, has released his debut album, “Shut Up and Love Me.” This album has been years in the making, and fans are eager to hear what’s on his mind. The project features both Aidan’s affection for 80’s music and The 1975‘s influence. He told Atwood Magazine in an interview that engaging with social media “feels like a job,” which is why “I brought in the more personality stuff.” Let’s step into Aidan’s perspective in Shut Up and Love Me.
On the third track, “are you curious?”, focuses on nonreciprocal love. He’s falling hard, but the other party doesn’t want to move forward. The first verse reflects his emotions: “In my car, take my shirt / I can’t stand when you flirt / Don’t you speak, I’m gettin’ weak / At the bar down on First / Swear we kissed, what a blur.” She’s casting a spell on him, and he can’t break through.
Halfway through the album, “my funeral” touches on a personal moment in Aidan’s life. A friend has entered and left this world. In this slowed-down gut-wrenching track, the singer/songwriter lets it all out in the chorus, “Falling asleep in all my clothes / My God, I miss you, so I can’t let you go / It’s my funeral.” He captures the feeling of losing someone and the first night without them.
The importance of connection along with showing emotion flows continuously throughout this album. With catchy guitar riffs from Grant McManus and memorable drum progressions by Fionn Roche, Shut Up And Love Me reels you in within the first 10 seconds. Aidan knows how to get you up off your feet, but also make you curl into a ball and cry your heart out.
