As their North America leg of the tour moves into its’ later half, Joywave and supporting act Hunny brought a one-of-a-kind night of their Permanent Pleasure Tour to Dallas, TX last week. Illuminated by the venue’s iconic ferris wheel and the setting sun, the fully-packed crowd was in for a night unlike any stop on the tour.

Before Joywave took the stage, indie-rock band Hunny started the night off with ‘Halloween’. Although the band was missing some members of the full line-up, their performance was incredible as always. It was clear the crowd thought so too after they passed up a signed pink cowboy hat just for vocalist Jason Yarger. With many on the barricade there just to see Hunny, ending their set with their two biggest hits ‘Televised’ and ‘Vowels (And The Importance of Being Me)‘ was the perfect send-off.

If there is one thing to know about a Joywave show, it’s all about going big, or going home. To a throne where fans are invited to sit on stage, an inflatable replica of the cat that dons the cover of their newest album (and tour merch), and matching pajama sets that the band wears, the show is nothing less than theatrical. This being their smallest venue of the tour, however, prevented such a set-up, forcing the band to get a little more creative. Not only was their set a career-spanning collection of their best songs, but the crowd participation was on a whole other level, at one point frontman Daniel Armbruster handing out plates of BBQ from the venue’s restaurant himself. The later end of the show was one heavy hitter song after another, from their collab with Big Data ‘Dangerous’ rolling straight into ‘It’s a Trip!’, to a beautiful light show set to ‘Swimming in The Glow‘ and ending with ‘Destruction’, the one-night-only of the cleverly named “Permanent Porker Tour” will be a show for the ages.

Remaining dates for the US leg plus the EU/UK are available on Joywave’s official website. The tours’ namesake Permanent Pleasure is available on all major streaming services, along with a film made for the album currently streaming on the band’s official YouTube channel.
