After debuting their first song ‘I’m Just Trying To Love You‘ earlier this year, the up-and-coming New York City-based band Monobloc have released their second single and music video ‘Where Is My Garden‘. Coming off the heels of their previous musical project Courier Club, lead vocalist Timothy Waldron and bassist Michael Silverglade, along with new members Zack Pockrose on the drums and guitarists Nina Lüders and Ben Scofield, aim to bring their own pop and post-punk twist to the indie genre. Sounding like a song straight from a coming-of-age film soundtrack, ‘Where Is My Garden’ proves to show Monobloc’s creative vision in it’s most free form.
‘Where Is My Garden’ is an authentic expression of one’s dissolution of the world around them while wishing to have more and to be better, which is refreshing to hear in a music scene where focus is more on aesthetics and presenting oneself as their best version at any given time. The main lyrics in the chorus “Where is my garden? Where are my friends? Will it always feel like the end?” echoes this sentiment, comparing one’s spot to those around you and questioning if things will truly ever change. In their self-directed music video for the track, Waldron paces throughout a beautiful modern home in black-and-white with flashes of the rest of the band playing in separate rooms, ending with the group passionately playing together in the living room of the home along with a hazy garden and forest clearing. The juxtaposition of this huge house with everything you’d want and these lyrics filled with still wanting more out of life is intentionally shown. This single and video are quite well-crafted and is an amazing start of what is to come from Monobloc going forward.
Monobloc plans to bring these songs to life soon with a few shows this August and November, along with an UK/EU festival debut at the All Points East and Rock En Seine Festivals, opening for renowned rock legends LCD Soundsystem.
