With only a couple of shows in on their Something More 2024 Tour, Flipturn and Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners delivered a jam-packed show last week at The Factory in Dallas, TX. Primarily playing tracks off their newest album Shadowglow, Flipturn easily put on their best show yet, creating a performance for the ages while Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners set the tone of the night with their opening set.

Hailing from Seattle, Washington and lead by frontman Mitch Cutts, Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners brought their indie-rock sound with their first song “Wet Socks” to the almost sold-out venue. Their music feels like a dream, incorporating folksy elements that carries melancholic undertones into the heavy use of acoustic guitars. During the halfway point of their set, RMCM played a mix of their biggest hit to date “Evergreen” into a song from the same album “Sage”. Ending their set with “Lucerne” Cutts switches from guitar to keyboard, hyping up the crowd one last time as the rest of the band gathered around him, guitarist Nic Haughn and bassist Dylan Schneider shredding their final song of the night.

With an explosive entrance using their song “Churches” as an intro, Flipturn started the show with a bang. The energy from not only the band, but the crowd as well was infectious to say the least. Fans along the barricade passionately sang and danced to “Vanilla” and “Chicago”. One of highlights from the night has to be the stage design and lighting, including the ginormous disco ball above the crowd that was used a couple times throughout the show. Shining rays of light over the band and crowd, it truly felt like something out of a coming-of-age movie. The lighting on stage was incredible too with colorful drastic and fast flashes, along with a constant backlight behind the drummer Devon VonBalson that emphasized him and his performance.

As they began to transition to the end of their set, Flipturn turned the venue into something much more intimate with the song “Take Care”, mentioning the topic of mental health and how important it is to maintain. The backing track of chirping birds and nature sounds blending into the song was beautifully crafted, instantly shifting with a total tonal change with their biggest song “August”. With an encore including a Strokes cover of “Reptilia” and original songs “Burnout Days” and “Nickel”, Flipturn gave it their all one last time, thanking the crowd and RMCM for playing alongside them.

With many date left and the tour ending later this April, you can find tickets to the remaining shows on Flipturn’s website. Quite a few shows are sold out and more have low ticket warnings, so if you can, you have got to make it out to this show!
