After playing a sold out show in Phoenix with The Used in July, Pierce The Veil returned to Phoenix to another packed crowd on their headlining The Jaws of Life Tour. The tour features support from Destroy Boys, Dayseeker and L.S Dunes.
The night started with Destroy Boys, a female-fronted punk band from California. They played a quick seven song set of fast paced punk music. The majority of their setlist was made up of singles from their album Open Mouth, Open Heart.

Next up was Dayseeker, a post hardcore band that much like Destroy Boys, also hails from California. They also played a quick seven song set to get the crowd pumped up for Pierce the Veil to take the stage. They exclusively played songs off two albums, Dark Sun and Sleeptalk. Their set was fun and fast paced, but they did take on opportunity to slow it down and have the audience illuminate them with their phone lights.,

The last of the openers were L.S Dunes, a supergroup comprised of Anthony Green of Circa Survive, Frank Lero of My Chemical Romance, Tim Payne and Tucker Rule both from the band Thursday. They took the stage and people began immediately screaming. With all the members of the band being successful for other projects aside from L.S Dunes, they were met with a different energy from the crowd. The band is fairly new, having come together during quarantine. They have one album from 2022 called Past Lives. The group played all songs from Past Lives, and one song called “Benadryl Subreddit,” which is assumed to be from an upcoming album. L.S Dunes really got the energy up and the crowd ready for Pierce The Veil to take the stage.

It was finally time. Pierce The Veil was about to take the stage. As the lights dimmed, the crowd erupted out into screams and the first notes to ‘Death of an Executioner” began. As the song started picking up, mosh pits began popping up in the crowd. Keeping the energy high, the next song played was “Caraphernelia.” The band then went into “Circles,” and a giant circle pit opened up in the crowd. Because this was the The Jaws of Life Tour, they next played “Pass The Nirvana,” which is a song off the namesake album of the tour. They kept the high energy and mosh pits going for one more song, “A Match Into Water” before bringing the energy down a bit for a few songs.
To kick off the slower portion of the set, the band played “Emergency Contact.” Next came “Hold On Til May” during which they brought a fan named Desiree on stage. She sat in a chair as Vic serenaded her. At the end of the song they gave her a guitar to take home with her, which has become a staple in their sets. Carrying on they played “Resilience” and then acoustic renditions of “12 Fractures” and “Bulletproof Love.”
Picking back up the energy, they played “May These Noises Startle You in Your Sleep” which seamlessly transitioned into “Hell Above.” To end their set, they played two more songs off The Jaws of Life, “So Far So Fake” and title track “The Jaws of Life.” The band then exited the stage as the crowd erupted into screams, begging them to come back.
After a few minutes, the took the stage once more. They started their encore with “Besitos,” a song they hadn’t played since 2013. Finishing off their set, they played “King For a Day.”
Overall it was a great show and Pierce The Veil always kills it. The setlist did a great job of honoring their old music as well as spotlighting their new album. It’s always a treat to see Pierce The Veil and I can’t wait until the next time they come to town.
