On November 10, the artist Jonah Freeman and singer-songwriter Harper Simon appeared at Roxy Cinema in New York City to present their newest project Meditations on Crime, a multi-media project highlighting the impacts of crime. The event began with the short film Meditations on Crime, a collection of found footage narrated by the actress Katherine Waterston and covered specific topics including crime’s power as a social construct, crime as the notion of hell, and crime as part of the human condition. The video powerfully commented on the wide world of crime and criminal acts that devastatingly impact humanity, as well as a specific focus on our corrupted prison system.
Following this short film, audience members sat for minutes of meditation during Mercury City. With a series of calming ambient noises and a guided visual and mental walkthrough.
After Mercury City, band member Adam Green from The Moldy Peaches facilitated a Q&A with Freemen and Simon about the creative process around this multi-media project.
The event concluded with sweet performances from Freeman’s close friends, Marcellus Hall and Elysian Fields.
