Indie pop singer-songwriter Claud is out on the road on Part 1 of the Supermodels Tour in support of their latest album Supermodels, released on July 14, bringing their coffee-shop style tracks to “Claudiences” all over. Last Thursday, they stopped at Beer City Music Hall in Oklahoma City with special guest Lutalo, and Encore Nights got to capture the magic.
First to take the stage was Lutalo, a project from Vermont-based singer-songwriter Lutalo Jones, and they set a tone of chill vibes with their 30-minute set that complemented Claud’s discography nicely. They performed a mixture of older and newer songs, such as “Hold My Head” and “Little Chance” as the crowd swayed along. Lutalo’s most recent EP AGAIN released on August 25, and while their run with Claud has since concluded, they will be performing a headlining set at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY on October 4 before heading overseas for a couple of performances in November.

At around 9 p.m., Claud took the stage to the delight of those in attendance, opening with “A Good Thing”, before throwing things back to their album Super Monster with “Guard Down.” At that point, they noticed some fans along the barricade with customized “Hello, My Name Is…” nametags, with most reading “Paul Rudd” and one reading “Mr. Bitch,” in reference to their tracks “Paul Rudd” and “That’s Mr. Bitch to You”. In appreciation, they requested a Paul Rudd nametag of their own that they wore for the remainder of the performance as they then launched into “Every Fucking Time”. The setlist was largely made up of tracks from Supermodels, but also included other fan-favorites such as “Wish You Were Gay”, “Soft Spot”, “Tommy”, and even a surprise Taylor Swift cover.
As someone who typically finds themself covering heavier rock shows a large percentage of the time, but who was introduced to Claud’s music through their support slot on Paramore’s U.S. tour last fall, I noticed that the “Claudience” was a lot more relaxed, but no less passionate, than the crowds I am used to. Instead of mosh pits, there were singalongs and dance parties in between cry sessions and bits of laughter, but this is not a bad thing – sometimes we all need a break from the rowdiness to just hang out with like-minded individuals and vibe to some chill tunes. It was also clear that Claud has just as great of an appreciation for their fans as their fans do for them; there was storytelling and banter a-plenty in between songs, which was very refreshing to see in an age where we’re all simultaneously over-connected and disconnected with each other through social media.

A Claud show is more than just a concert – it’s a gathering of close friends, all coming together to share inside jokes and get in their feelings together.
The Supermodels Tour – Part 1 continues in Denver on October 3 before making its way along the west coast, concluding on October 20 in Los Angeles. Tickets for all remaining shows can be found here.
