On Friday, July 14th, the House of Blues in Chicago was treated to a mix of dancing and swaying with the arrival of Lauren Spencer Smith. For the first hour and a half, Spencer Smith’s two openers took the stage, getting the blood pumping in the crowd.

Geena Fontanella

LA-based singer and previous American Idol contestant Geena Fortanella primarily known as “Geena” introduced herself with a nostalgically early 200s pop presence. Geena had the crowd dancing and singing along to one of her songs that smoothly transitioned into a cover of the “Teenage Dirtbag” chorus, but it didn’t stop there. Geena’s quick audience engagement continued past her set with loud cheering even as set up for the next opener began.

Blake Rose

Following Geena, the Australian indie pop singer-songwriter Blake Rose took the stage. Rose brought a calmer energy to his fans with a strong emphasis on his lyrics and acoustic delivery. Rose’s contagious smiles and warm genuine interest in his audience as he performed brought the perfect performance to move into the headliner.

Lauren Spencer Smith

Within the first couple of minutes of her show, Lauren Spencer Smith incorporated many of the elements of both her openers, beginning with a dimly lit and intimate song far from the front of her stage. This introduction to her set was immediately captivating and only continued with upbeat bops and a very loyal and enthusiastic crowd. Lauren Spencer Smith’s performance at the House of Blues was an incredibly entertaining and easily attentive experience which was perfect for a Friday night.
