Live Review: Taste Addison Festival, Addison, TX on June 3, 2023

On June 3rd, 2023 the City of Addison held their second date of the Taste Addison Festival in Addison, Texas.

First to take the Texas heat and stage was Van Full of Nuns who are a pop punk band based in Dallas. They have been taking over the pop punk scene since 2019.  They sang fan favorite covers of bands like My Chemical Romance’s “I’m not okay (I promise)” and “Black Parade”, Papa Roach’s “Last Resort” . In between songs, they reminded the crowd to stay hydrated. They also played an original song “Love to hate me” followed by their cover of “I miss you” by Blink 182, throughout their set the crowd sang and danced along.

Meet me @ the Altar was the second act to take over the Main stage in Addison.  Their set list included songs like “Hit Like a Girl”, “Try”, “Kool” and “Rocket Science” They also sang the chorus of “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissette, “Complicated” by Avril Lavigne and Freaky Friday’s “Take Me Away since these are some of their favorite songs of each member. During a small technical difficulty that would cause them to delay their set they had a small Q&A with the crowd, which made the experience a little more personal. They, also throughout their set, reminded the fans to stay hydrated

As the day went on Hawthorne Heights had to delay their set due to strong winds and thunderstorm warnings. Lead singer JT took a break from singing to thank the fans for following them along through their journey and asked the crowd to encourage every artist they know because “everyone starts with a tiny spark” and sometimes encouragement is all that is needed to push forward. They played their classics like “Saying Sorry”, “Silver Bullet”, “Niki FM”, they also played newer songs such as “Hard to Breathe” from “Lost Frequencies”  and “Dandelions” from their album “Lucerne Valley” and they closed their set with “Ohio Is For Lovers”

Story of the Year was next to take the stage. Full of high energy, jumping up and down they sang a mixture of old and new songs such as “Anthem of Our Dying Day”, “Take Me Back”, “War”, “Real life”, “Until the Day I Die”. At one point, Dan the lead singer noticed a fan carrying a box of Pringles which they ended up exchanging for a drum stick – safe to say everyone won that night. Before exiting the stage, Dan reminded the fans that they will be back with Yellowcard.

3OH!3 was the final band to take the stage. The fans were able to match the energetic vibes that 3OH!3 had throughout the night. Some of the songs they sang which made the crowd sing and dance along included “Starstrukk”, “7-11”, “My First Kiss”, “I’m Not Your Boyfriend Baby” and to close the night they sang “Don’t Trust Me”.
