Sebastian Ortiz is an up and coming New Jersey-based singer-songwriter who brings a classic folk renaissance sound to indie-rock. We had the opportunity to chat with him about his plans to release an EP in 2023, and learn more about who Sebastian is as he dedicates himself fully to music and shows no signs of stopping.

Can you share a little bit about yourself? What do you want new fans to know about you?

Take me as I am. I’m not trying to be anything, I’m not trying to imitate anybody. I just have strong influences from the 70’s and 80’s rock

How did you first get into music?

The Beatles. I remember I was in third grade and saw a commercial from Target that played “Hello, Goodbye”. And Iggy Pop

You mentioned The Beatles and Iggy Pop as influences, are there any other artists that influence you?

Lately two big influences are Fontaines D.C, they are an irish post-punk and Just Mustard they are a rock band. Check them out!

Are there any instruments that you play?

I play guitar,  bass, a little bit of piano and drums, I can play drums to fill in and if it’s really needed

Can you tell me a little bit about “Everyday She Comes Back”, you’re newest release

I wrote this song in the summer, I wrote this song about an ex-girlfriend. I’m really excited about releasing this song, I’m beginning to take myself more seriously as an artist.

What is your creative process like while writing songs?

So, for a long time I’ve had this habit of writing every day, sometimes 3 to 5 songs a day. Most of my songs, I write just using my guitar. I then take them to my producer and then he helps decide which ones make the cut.

Are you planning on releasing an album anytime soon? Can you tell me anything about it?

I have an EP planned to be released in September or October of this year

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Not right but hopefully I’ll have some shows soon!

How we can encourage your career growth?
